The Attachés Arms, the oldest and highest pub in Athens, opened [est. circa 1957] just once a year on Boxing Day to celebrate the festive season!
Alas, after 66 years, this fine tradition was in danger of dying out. To avoid this sad demise, last year’s walk was hosted by Athens Hash House Harriers.
Recognised experts in the combined arts of running about on mountains and drinking alcohol, the hashers pitched the tent and fired the burners - in the wind and lashing rain!
Obvious gluttons for punishment – we will be doing it again this year ??.
Unfortunately, the trail up to the top isn’t suitable for vehicles anymore, so the mulled wine and rum punch will be in the car park – but that doesn’t stop intrepid walkers from reaching the top and admiring lovely views over the sea.
It will be “business as usual” serving the traditional “Boxing Day Walk” Mulled Wine and Rum Punch on Penteli – same starting place [link below] – same time (11:30-13:00 or until we run out of wine and rum!).
