Important Information for our Athens HHH Prelube visitors

16-18 July, 2004 - Mycenae, Peloponnese, Greece

(1) All hashers registered for the weekend automatically have hotel accommodation reserved in Mycenae for the nights of Friday 16th and Saturday 17th July. You will need to settle your hotel bill some time on the Sunday.

(2) If you require accommodation before Friday night and/or after Saturday night, please re-confirm your request - just so there are no misunderstandings.

>>> It would also help us if you could send or re-confirm your flight arrival details so that we can try to anticipate any possible problems. Also, which pickup point you plan to embark our coach (see below).

(3) PICK UP POINTS

Our coach will collect hashers on Friday 16th July at the following places & times:

4.30 p.m. Kallimarmaro (Old Olympic or Panathenaic) Stadium - Central Athens
[NOTE: A 15 minute.walk from the E95 Airport Express Bus Syntagma stop]

5.00 p.m. Alpha Vita Vassiloupolos Supermarket - Kifissias Avenue - Psychico - Athens Central - North

5.30 p.m. Syngrou Park car park - Kifissias Avenue - Maroussi / Kifissia - Athens Northern Suburbs
[NOTE: Near the KAT stop for the E92 Airport Express Bus]

5.45 p.m. Outside McDonalds (opposite the bus station at Platanos Square & the park) - Kifissia- Athens Northern Suburbs
[NOTE: Just over the road from the last stop for the E92 Airport Express Bus]
[WARNING: Don't confuse with E93 going to Kifisos - totally different!]

(4) Transportation from Athens International Airport:
The Airport Express Buses depart from the Arrivals level between exit 4 & 5 every 10-15 minutes. The cost of the ticket is Euro 2.90, which also covers travel on other forms of public transport for 24 hours (so don't lose it!).

The E95 Syntagma stop & terminus in the centre of Athens is very close to Syntagma or Constitution Square. The metro entrance on the square has free museum inside. Also on the square is the Parliament building (you'll see the guards outside) & a McDonalds. The National Gardens are just off the square. Short metro rides take you to the Acropolis station for seeing the Acropolis & the Parthenon & to the Monastiraki station for the flea market & shopping and Plaka for eating & sightseeing.

Walk through the National Gardens to get to the Kallimarmaro stadium. You can buy a small, inexpensive map of Athens from a kiosk (periptero) to guide you there. Our coach will stop on the main road outside the stadium entrance. There is a coffee shop (& public toilets) near the Stadium entrance if you arrive early.

The E92 Kifissia stop is in the Northern Suburbs. Lots of eating & shopping nearby. The old metro train (called the Electrico) is a 5 minute walk through the park & goes down past the NEW Olympic Stadium complex - to the centre of Athens (allow 40 minutes +) & down to the southern port of Piraeus (it's slow! allow at least 1 hour). Note: The ferries to the Greek Islands are a short walk from Piraeus Electrico station.

(5) MONEY: There are ATM's and Bureau De Changes at the airport. Also, most banks have ATM's outside. There is a large bank (Ethniki Trapeza) near the Kifissia stop.

Contact Phone Numbers

If you are bringing a mobile (cell) phone with you (GSM system), please send us your number so that we could contact you if necessary.

Most kiosks (peripteros) have telephones that you can use for a small charge. So call us if you have a change of plan or need advice.

- Prelube Weekend - Additional Information -

(1) The hotel: "La Petite Planete", Mycenae, Argolis, Greece Tel: 27510-76240
(It's a family-run hotel & close to the archaelogical site - go up through the village and it's on the left hand side).

Please be quiet inside the hotel late at night as there are other guests staying there who will be trying to sleep.

(2) The coach is a new one and they have a "no eating/drinking on the coach" policy as do most coach companies in Greece. But don't worry, we will have a beer & refreshment stop on the way.

(3) The hotel has a nice swimming pool surrounded by mowed but rather dry, coarse grass. It had limited sun loungers, & umbrellas when we visited last, so…...

SUGGEST YOU BRING Swimming costume, towel and/or something to lie on, beach shoes, sun tan oil, & umbrella & spike (if you want some shade - it will be hot!).

(4) Please prepare some skits, jokes, or songs etc. to entertain the hashers at our Friday night pool party. Also, bring a good dance music CD if you have one.
.
(5) Wear hashing gear on the coach if possible as we plan to have a short orientation hash up through the village of Mycenae to the hotel on our arrival, followed by a welcoming circle.

(6) The Syngrou Park pickup point is designed mainly for those who wish to join the coach by car and park their cars over the weekend in the car park (we have done this many times and so far never had a problem). Suggest you leave nothing of value (better nothing at all) visible in the car - lock it in the boot / trunk.

In the unlikely but possible event that the car park is full (a local school or theatre happening) you will find spaces on the road opposite - leading down to the KAT hospital.

Syngrou Park - Maroussi (Athens Northern Suburbs) - Directions:

Driving
---------
FROM THE SOUTH:
Coming from Athens go up Kifissias Avenue.
Go through / past Maroussi.
Pass the Bulldog pub and a cinema complex on your left.
Syngrou Park is now on your right. Continue on up in the right hand lane for ½ km or so. At the traffic light junction for the KAT hospital turn RIGHT into the Syngrou Park car park (look for the HHH sign at the entrance to the car park). If you overshoot there is another entrance in about 150 metres.

NOTE: If you pass the Neoset building on your right and start to enter Kifissia you have gone past the car-park entrances. With heavy traffic you may have to turn around at the Kifissia park / bus station (Get in the left-hand lane). Then follow directions From the North.

FROM THE NORTH:
Going southwards on Kifissias Avenue.
Go through/past Kifissia.
Get into the left-hand traffic lane & then turn left at the KAT traffic lights - directly into the Syngrou Park car park entrance.

NOTE: If you reach the Bulldog pub & cinema complex on you right-hand side you have gone too far. Turn round here, as there are traffic lights, else you may end-up in Maroussi.

By Metro/ Electrico
-----------------------
Take the Piraeus - Kifissia line and get off at the KAT (hospital) station. Once out of the station, walk up the road at right angles to the railway tracks in the direction of the KAT hospital. You will immediately pass the Venetis store on your right. Keep straight and in 450 metres & a bit uphill you reach Kifissias Ave. Immediately across the road is the Syngrou car park entrance.

>>> Meet in the upper section of the car park <<<

(7) ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORT: If you for some reason cannot board our coach at a pick-up point you must phone one of the committee - so that the coach is not delayed. If you intend coming later on Friday or on Saturday, it is possible to travel to Mycenae by public transport (see below). Note that the seaside town of Nafplio is only about 20 km from Mycenae.
